QB Fiedler was 24 of 36 for 188 yards, 3 INTs and a fumble. The numbers are misleading. Most of his throws were short and he overthrew in 2 ocassions where he had a WR open deep. The first INT wasn't his fault but the second sure was and the third was just a very bad underthrow. The second INT was just ridiculous. He pumped up his stats against a prevent Jets defense. He was really bad. The only reason he didn't get an F was the fact I wanted to highlight the coaching grade. (take a wild guess) D-
RB Smith started better than the last couple of weeks. The horrible play calling took his stats down (3 chances to convert a yard with the oldest plays in the book). He finished with 19 attempts for 53 yards and that's a 2.8 yard per carry average. D
WR McKnight deserves an F all by himself. He lost two balls, one on a fumble and the first INT was a screen that he jugled. He staretd thinking about the run before he secured the ball. Gadsden and Chambers (dropped one) were very quite and most of Fiedler's passes were very short (just over 5.2 yards per attempt) D-
OL Usually there was no push and Fiedler got sacked and on one occasion he fumbled because of it. D-
DL The Jets defense scored most of the points. The only Jets TD was on a 35 yard drive. They played OK but the lack of big plays hurts this team. Another game with no turnovers. C
LB The Jets really didn't have to attack. The LBs didn't cause turnovers and the Dolphin offense beat Miami all by itself. C
Secondary As the case with the rest of the defense they didn't have to do much. They did give up the one TD (Fletcher) but it's understandable. Fletcher was OK in his first start. He went for the INT late in the game and by missing he let a 21 yard play but it was a good decision because Miami was losing and only a gigantic play would have helped. C
Special teams Bad game. Turk didn't punt very well, Mare missed a 42 yard FG. The return game was nothing to write home about either. Ward returned a few punts as the coaching staff got tired of Ogden's fumbles. D-
Coaching How bad can they be ? Apparently they can get really really bad. I have never seen anything like this.
Example number 1 - Down by 21 with 11 minutes to go at their own 20 yard line and they call a shovel pass (the millionth of the game) that goes for -1 yards...
Example 2 - They tried 2 throws out of Fiedler's 36 that were for more than 20 yards.
Example 3 - With 7 minutes to go they were playing with zero urgency. How bad ? they had a delay of game ! With the clock ticking ! After the penalty they huddled again and it took about 1.5 minutes off the clock to execute another play and it was another 4 yard play...
The play calling was bizzare and the Jets were the better team. The problem is the Jets are a better team than Miami is this year and are in the driver's seat to win the division. A very big capital F !
