Dolphins vs Colts game summary
12/6/99
A very dissapointing game, losing 37-34. They came back from 14 points twice. They had a shot at winning or at least going to overtime at the end, they tied the game but still lost with a few receptions by Harrison at the end.
Grading the Dolphins
QB Well, so much for that "Marino is finished" story. If not for the defense Miami would have won on Marino's arm. He was very very good. He went 24 of 38 for 313 yards and 3 TDs and 1 INT. He's rating was over a hundred. He had one bad pass. His INT was a tipped ball. In short, he was very good. A-
Marino threw for 313 yards and 3 TDs
WR Welcome to Miami Mr. Yatil Green. He had 5 receptions for 64 yards. Both Martin and Gadsden had more than 100 yards on 6 receptions each and a TD each. Their numbers are up because Marino is back and he is throwing the ball to the WRs. Huard threw more safe passes to the backs. B+
Gadsden catching the 24 yard TD from Marino in the first half
RB JJ Johnson wasn't very good. He had a few nice runs but Miami was trailing most of the game and the focus was on the passing game which did good. C
OL They were OK, but the team lost. There's a dropoff from Webb, Brown to Smith. C
DL They were very bad in the first half. James had 104 yards by halftime. He also had a big 41 yard TD and a crucial run prior to his second TD. Owens and Armstrong had a sack each. Owens is a huge free agent. C
LB Well, the Colts scored 37 points, need I say more... C
Secondary This unit lost the game for Miami. I know Madison scored and Surtain had a big INT. Indy marched for the winning FG with 30 seconds to go. Two straight 16,18 yard plays at the end of the game (to Harrison) putting Indy in FG range and they knew he has the range because he made a 44 yarder and a 49 yarder. D
Special teams No big plays, no big returns, Wilkins returned the crucial last kickoff for 30 yards to the 32. This was the time Miami needed a big play from the coverage team. They didn't get it. D
Coaching Hey, Miami lost but the team played well on offense. The second half was good from the defensive point of view. They barely lost to the best team in the NFL. It wasn't that bad but they lost and Indy won the division (2 game lead with 4 remaining including Cleaveland). B-
