QB Marino had a bad game. The recievers didn't help him either.
He threw a bit behind the WR and 2 INTs (the 1st wasn't his fault). He had a bad percentage and a low rating.
He also fumbled, which led to the first Buffalo TD. He was pressured all day and he threw for 251 yards.
It wasn't a good day, but the rest of the offense played worse - C-
WR They had a VERY bad game. dropped passes (OJ for the 2nd straight game), they didn't make the catches when they needed to make them.
Gadsden was so bad in the INT, it looked like he was dreaming when the DB just robbed him of the ball. The ball came right to his hands, at least he could have prevented the INT.
I think that the WR got used to recieving balls right between the numbers, well, Marino will have off days and they will sometimes have to make the difficult catch. D+
OL Marino was pressured all day long (exept on one drive). He had to throw the ball away a few times. He was sacked twice. The first one resulting in a Buffalo TD.
JJ said after the game that Dan held the ball to long (the recivers weren't open as usuall), but I think someone should have at least made an effort to slow the blitzing LB.
The OL didn't open holes in the running game either...D
RB Collins rushed 16 times for only 47 yards and a 2.9 average. It doesn't sound good but he was better than the stats say. He gave the running game a little burst. Collins turned plays
that would have ended in negative yardage had KAJ handled the ball to modest gaines. He did have a few 6-10 yard carries. He lost a lot of yards in one carry near the endzone, but he didn't have any blocking
and he tried to make something happen, I don't blame him, they shouldn't have run the ball in the first place, it took valuable time off the clock and they ended up scoring through the air. Collins also converted a 4th and 1
that looked like it was going nowhere with no blocking. I don't understand why KAJ is still starting, Collins looked better - no question about it - KAJ would have never converted that 4th and 1. Konrad and Pritched were OK both had long receptions (18,26) D+
DL They had a good game. They stopped Buffalo's running game and contained Flutie for most of the night (He only had 1 big run for 17 yards). Smith also had a 20 yard gain. However their pressure on Flutie wasn't so good, they didn't get a sack
(the only sack was from S Calvin Jackson) and they didn't make him throw an INT B-
LB Zach had a quite night. The coverage on Buffalo's TE Riemersma was so and so. I wrote here before the game that Flutie likes to throw to his TE, he had 85 yards with an unlike TE 21.3 average. Jones also had a stupid offside call at the end securung Buffalo's win
B-
DB They had a decent game staying with the coverage but T-Buck was burned by Moulds for a 40 yarder and then a TD. Where was Madison ? He was very quite. Flutie at the end completed under 50%
that is largly because of the coverage B-
Special teams Mare was agian very reliable conecting for 4 FGs. Marion had a 93 yard kickoff return (with a great block from Wooden - twice !), I can't remember when was the last time Miami had that kind of a return (did he look slow or was it me ?), but Wilson had a little trouble handling the ball. The punting was awful, very inconsistent (a 26 yard punt, please...) B-
Coaching The bottom line is that the Dolphins lost. Maybe they should have thrown more on first down, preventing those 2nd and long and 3rd and long, but when you can't convert 3rd down what can a coach do ?
another thing is I thought they will pass following Marion's return and save time (about a minute and a half), they ran twice and when it didn't work Marino hit OJ for the TD C
