Dolphins vs Falcons game Summary
12/30/01
Grading the Dolphins
The Dolphins won a very important game on Sunday, beating the Falcons 21-14. Miami made it much more difficult than it was suppose to be, blowing a few opportunities to put the game away. A win next week will guarantee a first round home game (coupled with a Patriot loss a will will clinch the division).
QB Jay was 16 of 29 for 191 yards 2 TDs and 1 INT. Without the INT it should have been a good job but his first throw was an INT which resulted in seven Falcon points. B-
RB Minor got almost all of the carries and made a good contribution in the passing game. Lamar is having a really bad year. He ran 7 times for 4 yards... Minor was 9 for 33 yards. D
WR A very quite job. James fumble McKnight fumbled again after making a catch and getting hit hard. The 3 top WRs caught just 2 receptions each with Chambers having 44 yards. Minor caught 7 balls for 65 yards and 1 TD. Gadsden came back and caught a TD. C
OL A so and so job. Fiedler was sacked a few times. The running game is, well, we've covered that all season long - bad. C-
DL Vick ran all over the place. That was to be expected and they did get some pressure on Chandler and Vick. C
LB Zach was all over the place (14 tackles and 2 sacks). Greenwood was solid also. He looks much better and he looks to be a good player down the line for Miami. Rogers is out for the year and Gaylon was OK in his place. B
Secondary They did get 3 INTs (Marion returned 1 for a TD) and Surtain got two more. Surtain fumbled on his return and it was unnecessary because it gave Atlanta a chance to tie. Madison dropped an INT. B-
Special Teams Turk was inconsistent. Mare didn't kick any FG. Ogden had a nice 32 yard punt return. The kickoff coverage was excellent stoping the Falcons short of the 20 more than once. B
Coaching They made it look difficult but all that counts are the results and Miami won. Another tough match awaits next week. Buffalo won on the road against the Jets, something Miami hasn't done in 8 tries... So Buffalo is a strong team but a win will give Miami a first round home game. B
On the 1st of November, 1970, RB Mercury Morris, gained a Dolphin record of 302 combined yards. He ran 8 times for 89 yards, received 3 balls for 68 yards and returned 6 kicks for 145 yards. |
